More than 15 000 European and global tech professionals, start-ups and young people who are interested in digital entrepreneurship met in Kaunas, Lithuania, in September. The largest ICT and entrepreneurship event in the Baltics — #SWITCH! was initiated and is organised by MEP Antanas Guoga.
The event has 5 main pillars: Professionals pillar, Youth pillar, Education Pillar, Technologies zone and Science Market, Hackaton.
This year #SWITCH! dedicated professionals’ programme to take stock of Digital Single Market agenda and draw guidelines for policy makers at national governments and in the EU institutions about the actual digital market needs and challenges. Topics included ongoing debates of fintech, medtech, bigdata, copyright, cyber security and digital skills.
#SWITCH! Youth became a platform for youth to engage with business and start-up companies, to learn practically about modern technologies and innovations. In addition, they met entrepreneurs wearing jeans and T-shirts, finding out “they’re just like us”. It helps to break an entrenched stereotype that IT sector is not for everyone. #SWITCH! Youth was dedicated to future decision makers, developers and engineers who will run this world in 10 years. This year #SWITCH! was focused on career improvement opportunities in technology sector for young people, as well as on the improvement of tech-education in Lithuania.
