Amazon Says It Will Hire 120,000 Holiday Workers in 33 States, Starting Pretty Much Now

If you know somebody who is out of work or needs a little extra income in the last few months of the year, chances are they might be interested in a seasonal job at Amazon, Target, Macy’s, or one of several other big retailers.

Some of them have one-day hiring fairs coming up very soon for holiday positions. Here are all the details.

The latest and largest retailer in the temporary worker market, Amazon says it’s going to hire more than 120,000 employees to help get through the 2017 holiday season–which nearly doubles the number of workers in the company’s fulfillment centers, sorting centers and customer service sites. (There are 125,000 full-timers.)

The temporary positions are located in 33 states (list at the bottom of this article, along with a link to to the application site). Some will undoubtedly be filled by people who return to the company year after year, but others will be first-time hires. Amazon says thousands of people in these short-term jobs always wind up converting to full-time, regular positions with benefits including health insurance.

This year’s seasonal hiring for Amazon is about the same number as last year, even though industry surveys predict that customers will be buying more this year than last year. The difference? Greater efficiency in logistics and efficiency, an analyst told Reuters. (In other other words, the robots are coming.)

Of course Amazon isn’t the only place offering positions. Here are a few of the other big options, along with some details and deadlines you’ll want to know:

Target

The company is hiring about 100,000 temporary workers, and has a recruitment event this weekend at various locations around the country. Details at TargetSeasonalJobs.com.

UPS

You probably won’t get to drive one of the trucks, but they’re still hiring 95,000 temporary workers. Details at UPSjobs.com.

Macy’s

There will be about 80,000 temporary employees hired at the Macy’s and and Bloomingale’s brands. Details at MacysJobs.com  and BloomingdalesJobs.com.

FedEx

The logistics and delivery company will hire 50,000 people, including both temporary and permanent jobs. Details at careers.fedex.com.

J.C. Penney

Forty thousand jobs, with a one-day hiring fair set for October 17. Details at jobs.jcp.com.

As for Amazon, it seems they’re always hiring n one way or another. Earlier this year the company announced it was hiring 5,000 people who would be able to work from home in customer service roles. Then, they announced a one-day kickoff as part of its drive to hire 50,000 full-time workers.

As for their seasonal jobs this year, they’re located in the 33 states below.
